Batgirl #69
I absolutely adore Tim Sale’s work. I’m mostly posting this because it was cold as Hoth last night (sorry for the Star Wars in your Batman).
I don’t think I’ll ever get over Barbara Gordon falling victim to The Women in Refrigerators cycle. Basically the only Batgirl as far as I’m concerned (though I must admit Cassandra Cain kicks some major ass).
“Two of a Kind” from Batman Black and White #1 (June 1996) is simply incredible. It exemplifies why I’m such a Batman fan, the artwork is beautiful and the tale dark and unforgiving. In Batman’s universe all characters, friend or foe, are compelled by these dark, psychological scars. Harvey Dent has always been one my favourites because he’s the antonym of Bruce Wayne. Tragedy struck both of these one time close friends. Yet they both take their pain and run off in opposing directions. Bruce to become The Batman, a vigilante for justice. Harvey on the hand becomes the criminal Two Face, who make his resolutions on a flip of a coin.
Barbra Gordon is absolutely stunning in this piece. I’m sorry she fell victim to Women in Refrigerators Syndrome.
